For a Better World

Per un mondo migliore - Para un mundo mejor - Pour un monde meilleur

Many people feel that killing convicted murderers will satisfy their need for justice and/or vengeance. They feel that certain crimes are so heinous that executing the criminal is the only reasonable response.
I think that permitting premeditated murder is totally unacceptable, even if committed by the state.
Capital punishment lowers the value of human life as seen by the general population and brutalizes society. It is based on a need for revenge.

Death penalty is a crime in itself, it is murder, no matter what excuses its deffenders may find. I cannot believe that nowadays, in a so called civilized world, some countries still have it. What a sad reality!

It's a judgment I'd rather not make. I don't feel qualified. Human's are predictably errant. Whether fighting the good battle, or bad, you can be sure they'll make a mistake. At the same time, if I were attacked, I know I would defend myself to the death. Not because I fear death. I'm 100% sure what lies beyond this life. Rather, because I fear detachment from the things I love. All human's possess this quality. All human's would act to preserve their life. Maybe this is why criminals become criminals: they're desperate and acting the only way they know, to preserve their life?

The difference is, I know where all of us are going after this life. There is no hell. This is a myth of creatures (ignorance). We return to our divine self, who is exactly who we are now, but without the ignorance. In our divine state things don't look the same as they do from earth. We may choose to return to ignorance, to work things out; or we can learn from our experience and choose to not return; either is acceptable. We only have ourselves to judge. In or out of this life. If I were to judge, my preference would be then my state of ignorance. The divine doesn't fear detachment.

If there is such a thing as human rights (as opposed to human priviledges), then it's the right of the criminal to choose for their self. If I were to choose, I would send the truly guilty back to try it again. It boils down to knowing, beyond shadow of a doubt, they are indeed truly guilty. That's impossible to know if you didn't witness the event first hand.

I do not believe human life can be devalued. And certainly not by the standards of an errant system. I don't believe it can be killed, either. This life is the temporary one. Dying is easy. It's living that's tough. Maybe there is more learned in living it, even if it is in a prison?

I wouldn't argue the about the Death Penalty because it devaluates life, rather that we all choose to come here, knowing full well the structure of what we would face. When we get here and start to complain about the details, we're missing the point. Human Rights for All, means just that. Death is a choice for all of us. Just as is Life.

I'm not qualified to judge for another person. Only for myself. For myself, if I were guilty of a travesty that warranted my death, I personally would choose my death. It would be the right thing to do. But that's just what I would personally do.

So have I now completely confused everybody? ;-) eve

When you stand before your maker, what will you feel ? It's not in our hands. People murder/ steel/ Rape for all different reasons/motives and the creator knows their hearts.

I agree with your statement Alessandro. A moral guide that I've always used is..."never 'lower' your behavior to that behavior you would change". It's the "Golden Rule" to moral accuracy, or behavior management. When ever we do that, we loose track of how important human life is, thus becoming 'routine'...exceptable. There has never been a positive result from the taking of a life, regardless of what they've done, because we ''spoil the petri dish''...meaning we will never find out ''why'' they did what they did. Killing is morally incomprehensible, whether it be the guilty or the victims.

Today, Islam has acquired a bad image in the West. It is seen as a world of aggression, violence, intoleration, repression and political instability. That view is a gross media exaggeration. To simplify things, Islam is far from these caricatures ...
