Why should I be eco-conscious?

Being eco-conscious means being aware of what you are doing, buying, using, and what it does to the environment.

Some examples of Ways to Help the Environment

Recycle glass, paper, aluminum cans, steel containers, organic material, plastic bottles and more others.
Recharge Your Batteries Batteries contain heavy metals, such as mercury and cadmium, which have become a major source of contamination in dump sites.
Shopping Bags Bring a cloth bag when you shop, or use string bags.
Use CFC free products ChloroFluoroCarbons destroy the ozone layer, which protects us from harmful UV rays.
Carpool or walk to reduce carbon dioxide pollution in the air.
Do not use ivory or animal furs. Animals are killed to make these!
Reuse whatever you can, including aluminum pie tins, glassware, plastic cutlery and aluminum foil.
Try to buy items that are less toxic to the environment when produced. For example, use vinegar and water as a replacement to glass cleaner.
Use Low Flush Toilets In your household, 40% of the pure water is flushed down the toilet.
Use Fluorescent Lighting Lighting results in 1/5 of the electricity consumed

Being eco-conscious, I believe is a very substantial attitude that everyone should practice as a means of contribution in saving our planet.

Living in a country wherein eco-consciousness is strongly take part in our daily lives, gives every citizen the motivation of the issue and have such standards and practices concerning this matter.

Being a native of a poor country and finally landed on a country wherein I consider it as my home now , has given me a lot of awareness to a lot of issues that generally involves very important concerns that we really have to focus...

What can one individual do to make a difference?

It has been a controversial question that I believe that almost everyone have in mind. But for me...doing my role myself is not enough! Each and everyone of us must share these thoughts and actions and pass it on to another.

Being a part of this program, I pass it on to my children and people that I know and have them fully conscious of the possible consequences that may occur if they do not follow such righteous standards. Be the role model!

At school, children here in Japan use recyclable items such as pet bottles, drink caps, toilet paper and tissue paper boxes, used barbeque sticks , styrofores and other used materials that they can use to create such projects to apply their creativity.

I have my own shopping bag which my son call it an " eco-bag" :) that I always take with me when I go to supermarkets . Vinyl plastic bags are for sale here for 5 yen (5 cents) now so as to implement a better understanding to the citizens of the issue. Some non concerned citizens who does not really understand would rather buy the plastic vinyl bags.

Trashes here are separated consequently to recyclable and non recyclable items.

I do not throw the used water from the bath tub, instead I use it to clean the bathroom itself and the toilet as well....

The aforementioned habits and practices may not mean much to others, but it means much to me as it is my little way to contribute and be a part of saving our planet...not only for our benefits but also for the future generations.

We have to build such discipline to start within ourselves first and from thereon we have an outlook of the results that we did made a difference!!
