Sima Community

Location: Kitale- Kenya
Sima Community Based organization in registered 1994 as non profit making organization based in Kitale-Kenya. Sima CBO is operating in rural areas where the problems started and during clashes time many people lost their life and leave their children alone to suffer. We are operating in Trans-Nzoia district in Kenya with an estimated population of 640,000 have 63% of its inhabitants living below the poverty line. Aim: Strengthen community capacity for improved quality of life, fight against HIV/AIDS, and poverty As you know we are try to changing the world, It is hard to imagine that children in developing countries suffer from malnutrition, hunger, disease, poor living conditions, and illiteracy but it is true. Children that suffer in poverty find themselves uniquely challenged to discover a way out, often they struggle without strong family support system that most Africa can count on.

The most important thing that Sima health care promoters learned is this thing that is still surprising when we tell other people, which is, that as you improve health in a society, population growth goes down. Sima CBO works to share Jesus and serve people in Trans-Nzoia district •Kitale. The mission’s main objective is for the message of our Lord to be shared with all people. To accomplish this objective, the mission works with the churches of Christ and the communities at large to serve people in health care, feeding the hungry, providing shelter, Providing training or education on child rights, research child rights, works directly with children, caring the children and work in partnership with organizations. The Watson Foundation has partnered with our organization, which is non-profit making and is supply them with the essential medicines for the children on the communities’ project. Sima CBO is ongoing to train health care promoters in all the villages in conjunction with the community health workers for the communities and we estimated number of children we treat them free is total of 50,157. “As long as there is poverty in the world I can never be totally rich.. As long as, people are afflicted with debilitating diseases I can never be totally healthy… I can never be what I ought to be, until you are what you ought to be. They cannot simply pick up and move out of areas where gang violence, drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution, and malnutrition run rampant. There is little to no opportunity for good education, well-paying jobs, excellent health care, and exposure to the arts. Poverty is also destroying the lives of children in other countries. Food and clothing are basic to everyone’s existence, yet millions go without. To them the basics of life are luxuries; education and good health are fleeting dreams. These are children who do not know how to dream because their focus is on surviving today. The population majority is composed of unemployed persons with minimal lands that can’t readily supply enough food to families. This has gone to affect other areas as in education (Children drop out of school seeking casual jobs for basic maintenance) and Health, particularly HIV/AIDS that is spreading rampantly as many young females trade their bodies for handouts in return, other diseases are rampant owing to lack of preventive knowledge, congestion etc. Without help these children are destined to a life of hardship. This is why our organization is providing at-risk children with critical building blocks that give them the opportunity and tools needed to dream and succeed in life. Join us in changing their world for the better. One In Five Children Live Below The Poverty Line" Therefore, we would like to request you to come and facilitated and support them. We are looking forward for your collaboration.

Yours Faithfully, Johnstone Sikulu Wanjala Programme Coordinator Sima Community Based Organization

Sima Community Based Organization is a Christian, Non-Profit organization based in Kenya , working to reduce and/or eradicate human suffering by responding to physical, spiritual and emotional needs of people.
At Sima CBO we understand that the future of Kenya is in the children that we serve. With the support of volunteers around the world we are able to serve the widows and orphans in our community to varying degrees. We help with school supplies, basic needs and have even had the opportunity to help build a home for a desperate widow and her orphaned grandchildren. We do this because we know that these are God's most precious amongst us.
Through this program we endeavour to reach out to people of all age groups with the gospel and Community at large. We in Sima CBO feel that all problems faced by human kind, need to deal with the spiritual needs then the physical needs will be easily dealt with. Given the example of the Clashes, HIV/AIDS scourge which has and it still is killing many people regardless of their age and status. To successfully realize the goals and objectives of this program, we endeavour to work in partnership/collaboration with other churches and Christian organizations both at local and international level. AIDS is the leading killer disease in the country, which has claimed lives of both men and women of ages mainly between 14-40 years. Yet as shocking as these deaths are, the impact of HIV/AIDS does not end with them. Because those dying from AIDS are mainly people in the prime of their lives who are often parents, a less well-known and calamitous effect of AIDS is the vast numbers of children orphaned by the disease.

Sima's carries out intervention activities with a Community/ Christian approach with love and compassion towards those families, which have been affected and infected by HIV/AIDS epidemic and other issues causing human suffering.
Through the community development and empowerment we mainly target to work with the existing Community Based Groups since they are based at the grassroots and they can easily identify most of their pressing problems in their communities and are able to come up with possible solutions to address them.

Realizing the importance and role to empower women, youths, and men, in order to get income and skills to alleviate poverty.

Dear My Fellow Christians,

A few short weeks ago we set a goal of 500 members in our Ministry Shelter Cause. Your response has been overwhelming - we reached our target and raised over $500 along the way!

Your participation in the Ministry Shelter Cause ensures that hundreds of displaced families, who have lost so much, now have a new beginning. As a result of our campaign to shelter and improve the lives of the Internal Displaced People in Mt.Elgon, we’ve demonstrated how individuals – such as you - can truly make a difference.

But we’re not done yet. The good news is that you can help – twice as much as before.

In recognition of your support, Microsoft Student has pledged to match your donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $1,000!

This is an extraordinary opportunity to double the impact of your assistance for refugees around the Kenya. Make a gift of $25 today, and it will become $50. Donate $50 and the match will make it $100. To give you an idea of what this means for the people we serve, here are a few donation equivalents:

$50 can provide 12 wool blankets
$100 can provide a survival kit to a family of 5
$200 can provide an all-season tent to a family of 5

This is a critical time to help the desperate men, women, and children forced to flee their homes with only the clothes on their backs.

Just think of the lives you can save by doubling your impact.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Good day, Friends! I am no expert on Africa, had not done a development project there, so my humble contribution will be to post development updates about the continent and its wonderful peoples. As Teacher of the Path, I do mentor spiritual seekers there now, via internet and the astral plane, and I'm happy over their development.

I believe is very important to consider that together we can reflect and to act for bringing thoughts, experiences and attention to this Global Social Responsibilty, a drop together to other drops it is able of to fill a water basin, to bring the life where the desert has stolen every hope.
We are those drops, it perhaps appears us meaningless our value but nearby to other people we can give what is in our resources.
If we look at our world we can realize that ours to often travel in places that have the fame to be very " natural" they are also places that know great differences between our way of life and that of those populations.
I believe, dear Tom,that your idea is important to understand that in ours to travel we can complete an important discovery of those realities that we don't often go to see.
Countries as India, as Africa, the uneasiness of some ethnic minorities in Latin America, in Australia and in other places they don't have to pass unnoticed. I believe whether to travel both the opportunity to understand, to give our help and to be present indeed in the places that we visit - to be with whom entertains us in the respect and in the correct attention.

A smile

Cosmopolitan means living in a region that has people with different culture, family background and beliefs. Being a Cosmopolitan, there is always learning from each other in terms of culture, behaviors hence bringing different ideologies in harmony. Beside that what also attract me most with the Cosmopolitan is unity, brotherhood and sisterhood that is seen among the people living in that particular region. All these aspect break the idea of tribalism as people see each other as one.
Literature as an effective tool for regional cohesion that represents and explores the way in which society is viewed and experienced by people in that society or social groups. Cosmopolitan gives us insight on how times, cultures and classes are different, and how they are the same. Without this understanding of the range of human experiences in its continuities and possibilities, we live in a world where we can not make meaningful dissection of our existence. Cosmopolitan, make us to learn out of the beautiful of our regions, diversity and how communities co-existed peaceful. The history of our People should mould readers into better, knowledgeable region. Our tribal diversity should never mould bests of thoughtless and egocentric tribe warriors. The region need strong literatures that can teach our people that with many tribes – each with own unique culture – it is impossible for us to belong to one supreme tribe.
Basing on what happen in Kenya recently, it was discovered that the region what had been dominated by a particular tribe was much affected. I come from Trans Nzioa district which is one of the cosmopolitan region with all the fourth two (42) tribes and looking at what happen after the last years election I observed that while other region were affected with the post-election violence, people in Trans Nzoia were firm and busy with there work. This is because of many tribe living in the region hence it was no tribe which dominated the region and for this reasons difficult for a particular tribe to claim that the region belong to them.
With what happen in Kenya , Cosmopolitan needs powerful oral narratives and literature that will make the youth to understand that although we belong to different communities, our intertwining cultural practices brought about by close social, political and economical resemblance gels us into one happy people. But as Chinua Achebe would ask, “where did the rain start beating us” I would say, historical and current politics of division practiced first by colonizers and then transmitted to subsequent community leaders has led to a situation where Kenyans themselves barely know their own culture let alone that of their neighbors. The colonial administration in partnership with missionary activities and formal education wiped out most of our uniting cultural practices living a gap that was filled by western cultural attitudes and identification, especially, by our youth, and this, has let to mistrust among our local communities.
Unlike the attempt to come up with a unifying regional dress which blatantly failed, literature is the test vehicle which can create deep understanding of difficult nature of Kenyans cultural identity. Just a simple test: how many of us know these communities as a part of the 42 Kenyan tribes: Bajuni, Dahalo, Isukha, Kore, Tachoni, bukusu and Sengwer? I bet, very few!
Our education system and our authors should embark to pen educative materials that will tell us more about the above ‘forgotten’ Kenyan brothers and sisters. Unless we know them better we can’t appreciate! We need literature that vividly offers insight into the lives of all our people.
Kenya ’s founding father, the late Jomo Kenyatta, authored powerful literature book, facing Mount Kenya . This timeless anthropological literature work of considerable literally merit which beautifully sold the very best of Africa and in particular, Kikuyu culture. The country now needs more of inter-tribal texts! Popular contemporary novelist like Ngugi wa Thiong’o should move out of the colonial time warp and author literature that goes behind worship of single tribes.
Cosmopolitan needs literature because is powerful cement that has brought communities, nations and continents together. The nation needs literature on how some other tribes can co-exists peacefully with others. The region needs literature which challenges negative societal values and sensitize on positive value.

Two day we had meeting of Peace and conciliation conflict in Alakara Hotel. First day was Trans Nzoia west but second day was Trans Nzoia east district. It is very good comments and ideas but how we can come up with a solution to finishing crisis in boundaries to Trans-Nzoia district. Those people who are leaving in boundaries in Trans-Nzoia most them they are lost their life. Innocent people lost their life without any protection. On Thursday this week in Cherangeny attackers killed a student who was protected their cattle for stealing.
There are some issues or my opinion asking myself about Peace in North Rift and Mt.Elgon for about security.
- Leaders will never bring Peace in their areas due to not reach to the common man (mwananchi).
- I will Peace come and if not settle internal displacement People’s (IDPs) who are still in camps.
- Settle unemployment for the youths.
- Fighting Poverty.
For my appeal comment to Peace in Kenya and ipeace network we need to create an office to equipped resource to advocacy for the Peace in the areas where conflict is that is a solution where we shall meet directly people without organizing seminars, meetings in big hotels, use only leaders, and other things.
Let us bring resources down to the people to utilize it in proper way. Trans – Nzoia district as cosmopolitan district need apply literature to use in order people to work together.
Let us join together and get a solution to protect our people.
Thanks.

Amici dell'Africa

I pozzi.

GMM for Africa

GMM, Merano Missionary Group, is an ONG, a Non-Governmental Organisation founded by Alpidio Balbo. Balbo has been working in various countries of West Africa, such as Benin, Togo, Ghana and Burkina Faso, since 1971 and has helped finance the building wells, health-care centres and schools. He has also worked to promote an “adoption from a distance” programme and encourages communication and dialogue between people of different cultural backgrounds.

Fresh water wells. The GMM finances the sinking of a large number of fresh water wells every year. A well gives hope to hundreds of local people who are often forced to drink dirty water or walk great distances every day to the nearest fresh water well. At present, it costs a minimum of three thousand Euro to sink a well.

“Adoption from a Distance”. The GMM arranges hundreds of “Adoption from a Distance” formalities annually at the cost to the adoptive parents of 165 Euro a year. Thanks to the generosity of countless people, the children involved are housed in functional, cosy accommodation, are well-looked after, get plenty of opportunity for play, are able to attend school and have access to basic medical care, too.

Schools. A large number of schools have been built thanks to money collected by the GMM. We have also helped finance professional schools for girls as well as carpentry and mechanical workshops for male students.

Health. Good health and health care are fundamental aspects of our work and the GMM has always dedicated itself to helping health care centres. We have set up numerous nutrition centres for children as well as dispensaries and given our support to pre-existing hospitals in something like thirty towns and villages.

Communication and Dialogue between Different Cultural Groups. The culture of Africa is rich in history and moral values. The GMM helps collect traditional stories, fables and children’s fairy tales with the aim of showing us all that each one of us has something to give and receive from people of other racial backgrounds.

What do you think about?

Many people feel that killing convicted murderers will satisfy their need for justice and/or vengeance. They feel that certain crimes are so heinous that executing the criminal is the only reasonable response.
I think that permitting premeditated murder is totally unacceptable, even if committed by the state.
Capital punishment lowers the value of human life as seen by the general population and brutalizes society. It is based on a need for revenge.
